Frequently Asked Questions on Subsidies & Licensing

Who is eligible for the 60% PMMSY aquaculture subsidy?

Women applicants (of all categories) and farmers belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and their registered cooperatives/SHGs are entitled to 60% central and state financial assistance. General male category applicants receive 40% subsidy.

Is Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA) registration mandatory for shrimp farming?

Yes, under the Coastal Aquaculture Authority Act, every brackishwater shrimp farm located within coastal regulation zones (CRZ) must obtain a 5-year CAA registration license. Operating without CAA approval makes farms ineligible for subsidies, bank credit, and electricity tariff concessions.

What interest subvention is provided under the Fisheries Kisan Credit Card (KCC)?

Under the KCC scheme, aquaculture farmers can access working capital loans up to ₹ 2.00 Lakhs at a concessional interest rate of 4% per annum (after 3% prompt repayment incentive), with zero collateral required up to ₹ 1.60 Lakhs.

How long does PMMSY subsidy approval and disbursement take?

Typically, state fisheries District Level Committees (DLC) review applications quarterly. Once approved and physical geotagged verification is completed by the Assistant Director of Fisheries, subsidy amounts are credited via DBT directly to the farmer's linked escrow bank account.
